We were recently contacted by a customer in Headcorn, just down the road from our office in Maidstone regarding carpet cleaning for her lounge carpet which had previously had a rug that was held down with double sided tape..
We would at this juncture advocate NEVER doing this, as you can see from the photos attached once removed, the glue from the tape leaves behind not only the lines from the tape but also the majority of the glue. Double sided carpet tape is for fixing a carpet to a hard floor where gripper bars cannot be used, or for joining carpets together, not rug onto carpets.
In order to set about tackling this rather gruesome scene we firstly applied a solvent to the glue which turns it brittle so it can then be picked away from the carpet fibre. Any residue form the solvent is then extracted and the carpet can then be reset using a pile brush and hey presto! Carpet good as new.
Before you say OMG is that the same carpet? Yes absolutely it is!
